The secret is out: Provo Airport (PVU) is the stress-free alternative to the long hikes and complexity at SLC. At Utah Travel Pros, we don’t just recommend you "Fly Provo"—we live it. We have flown out of the PVU terminal dozens and dozens of times over the last few years. We’ve taken quick hops to California, family adventures to Orlando, and even used PVU as a starting point for international treks to Australia via American Airlines.
But for most local travelers, the big debate is Breeze vs Allegiant. When you’re standing at those five gates with a stroller and three suitcases, which airline actually makes your life easier? We’ve scrutinized the fine print and lived the experience so you don’t have to.
1. The Seating Showdown: Staying Together
For parents, nothing is more stressful than the possibility of being separated from your kids on a flight. This is a major factor in the Breeze vs Allegiant comparison.
- Breeze Airways: Breeze is a hero for family travel because they offer assigned Family Seating free of charge. This allows two adults to sit with their children (ages 2–12) at no extra cost, even on their "No Flex" fares (Limited availability).
- Allegiant Air: Allegiant treats seat selection as a paid add-on. If you don't pay to reserve seats, you’re at the mercy of the computer at check-in. While they try to keep families together, there is no guarantee unless you pay for a seat or a bundle.

Our Take: Breeze wins this round. The peace of mind of knowing you’ll be next to your toddler without paying an extra fee is huge for our local families.
2. Decoding the Fares: Bundles and "No Flex" Traps
When comparing Breeze vs Allegiant, both airlines use a "pay for what you use" model, but the way they package those costs is very different.
The Breeze Approach:
Breeze offers several tiers, but we have a strong warning for families: avoid the "No Flex" fare. While it is the cheapest, it is incredibly strict—no changes are allowed, no full credit for cancellations, and no carry-on bags.
- Nice: Includes a personal item and a carry-on, with free changes and full credit for cancellations.
- Nicer: This is our "sweet spot." It includes everything from Nice plus a checked bag, extra legroom seat selection, and Wi-Fi.
- Nicest: Their version of first class (Ascent), which includes everything in Nicer and an extra checked bag and snacks and drinks.
The Allegiant Approach:
Again, we would recommend avoiding Allegiant's no bundle fares (essentially the same as Breeze "No Flex"). Allegiant offers similar bundles as Breeze:
- Basic: Personal item, carry-on, seat selection, and Trip Flex.
- Bonus: Personal item, NO carry-on, checked bag, extra legroom seat selection, priority access, and Trip Flex.
- Total: Personal item, carry-on, one checked bag, extra legroom seat selection, priority access, and Trip Flex.
Our Take: It's a bit of a mixed bag here depending on what you are looking for. The no-flex options are tied for strictness. However, Allegiant's "Basic" bundle actually includes seat selection, which Breeze's "Nice" bundle does not. But once you step up to the higher tiers, Breeze becomes the clear winner with better seating, more bags, and Wi-Fi.
3. Onboard Experience: Tech vs. No-Frills
When you’re flying four hours to Orlando (MCO), the "little things" become very big things.
- Breeze: Most flights out of Provo use the newer Airbus A220. These planes are a dream for parents, featuring high-speed USB-C power outlets at every seat and high-speed Wi-Fi.
- Allegiant: These are older planes. You will generally find zero power outlets and no onboard WiFi. If your kid's iPad dies over the Rockies, it’s going to be a long flight.
Our Take: Breeze wins this round. The peace of mind of knowing your kids' entertainment won't die mid-flight is huge for our local families.
4. The "Provo Factor": Our Pro Tips
Since we fly out of PVU constantly, here are three things we’ve learned from dozens of departures:
- The Boarding Ramp: Unlike SLC’s enclosed jet bridges, PVU often uses an outdoor covered ramp. In the winter, it can be chilly! Keep your kids' coats accessible until you are actually stepping into the cabin.
- Arrive 60 Minutes Early: You don't usually need the standard two-hour window here. TSA is lightning fast, usually under 10 minutes.
- Limited Food Options: Food options at PVU are limited to Guru's Cafe and Hangar 32, a store with snacks, soda, souvenirs and more. At times, Guru's Cafe can be very busy, although, we do love their food! Especially the chicken quesadilla.
Our Take: It's a tie! Provo airport is a win for families in Utah to get to their vacation stress free.
5. Rewards & Loyalty: Flying Smarter
If you fly out of Provo often, you need to be earning points. Both airlines offer programs designed for leisure travelers rather than corporate "road warriors," but they approach loyalty very differently.
- Allegiant Air: Allegiant’s Allways Rewards is a heavy hitter. In fact, it was ranked the #1 Best Frequent Flyer Program by USA TODAY’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards in 2025. It’s popular because it is incredibly simple: you earn points based on every dollar spent (including on your family's tickets), there are no blackout dates, and you can redeem points for as little as a few dollars off a flight.
- Breeze Airways: While Allegiant has the award, we have personally been loving the 2026 Breeze Rewards update. This new tiered system (Breezy 1, 2, 3, and Club) finally gives PVU flyers "elite" perks. At the Breezy 1 level (15,000 points), you unlock free Wi-Fi and priority boarding. The best part? You can now confirm bundle upgrades to "Nicest" right when you book. And as you reach higher levels, you can earn Buddy Discounts (starting at 25% off base fare with Breezy 2) for a companion that you travel with.
Our Take: Breeze wins this round. While Allegiant’s #1 ranking is impressive, the peace of mind of knowing your loyalty earns you free high-speed WiFi and confirmed upgrades is huge for our local families.
The Bottom Line: Breeze vs Allegiant from Provo
If you are strictly hunting for the absolute lowest price and can travel with just a backpack, Allegiant Air can sometimes save you money. However, for the average Utah family that needs bags, wants to sit together, and needs to keep devices charged, Breeze Airways (specifically the "Nicer" bundle) is almost always the better value.
