How to See The Wizarding World of Harry Potter in 1.5 Days
For many visitors, the Wizarding World of Harry Potter is the main reason to go to Universal Orlando. It’s not just a "land"—it's a "park within two parks," split between Hogsmeade and Hogwarts Castle in Islands of Adventure and Diagon Alley in Universal Studios.
So, can you see and do it all with a limited timeframe? We just did it. Based on our 1.5-day Universal Orlando itinerary, here is our guide to hitting all the magical highlights.
The 3 "Must-Knows" Before You Go
A short trip requires a strategy. To experience the full Wizarding World, these three things are non-negotiable.
- You Need a Park-to-Park Ticket. This is the only way to ride the Hogwarts Express, which connects the two lands.
- You Need Early Park Admission. This is your best (and only) chance to ride Hagrid's without a 2+ hour wait. You get this by staying at an on-site hotel like Cabana Bay.
- You Must Visit Both Parks. Hogsmeade (IOA) and Diagon Alley (USF) are both required experiences.
Our 1.5 Day Wizarding World of Harry Potter Itinerary
Here is how we split our time to make sure we saw everything.
Day 1: Getting the Lay of the Land Our first day was about exploring. After using Early Park Admission at Islands of Adventure for a few big coasters, we spent the late morning in Hogsmeade. We then park-hopped to Universal Studios for the afternoon and evening, which gave us our first "wow" moment of walking into Diagon Alley. Seeing Gringotts Bank with the dragon on top is amazing. The entire area is incredibly immersive, and Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes was a highlight.
Day 2: The Must-Do Mission This was our "Harry Potter" morning.
- 7:30 AM: Arrived at Islands of Adventure for Early Park Admission and went straight to Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure. We waited an hour, and it was 100% worth it.
- 10:00 AM: Rode the Hogwarts Express from Hogsmeade to Diagon Alley.
- 10:30 AM: Ate breakfast at the Leaky Cauldron.
- 11:15 AM: Rode Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts.
- 12:00 PM: Shopped, explored, and took the Hogwarts Express back to Hogsmeade.
The Must-Do Experiences in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter
With limited time, prioritize these.
The "Big 3" Rides (Our Ranking)
- Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure (IOA): This is the best ride in the entire resort. Do it first, no matter what.
- Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts (USF): A fantastic 3D/coaster hybrid inside the stunning bank lobby.
- Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey (IOA): An incredible ride inside Hogwarts Castle, but be warned, it's on a motion-arm and made us feel a bit sick.
The Hogwarts Express- Ride it in both directions. The story, characters, and "window" video are completely different on the way to Diagon Alley versus the way back to Hogsmeade.
Butterbeer! It's amazing, and you have to get it. We had 3-4 on our trip. Tip: For $5 more, get the souvenir cup.

Breakfast at the Leaky Cauldron- This was a great way to start our second day. We shared the Pancake Breakfast ($19.99), and with sausage, bacon, and pancakes, it was a perfectly-sized light breakfast for two adults and a toddler. And yes, we got a Butterbeer with it. Why not?
A Parent's Guide: Child Swap & Merchandise
This was our biggest takeaway as a family.
Child Swap is the Best! The child swap system in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter is fantastic. For rides like Hagrid's and Gringotts, the whole family waits in the (immersive) line together. When you get to the front, one adult rides while the other waits with the baby in a dedicated room (often with a TV playing the movies!). When the first rider is done, you swap. There's very little separation, and you both get to experience the queue.
The Honest Truth About Merchandise- We were very disappointed in the merchandise for little kids. We looked everywhere for something Harry Potter for our 15-month-old and found two onesies and zero toddler shirts, only youth sizes. That was it. Since we didn't find a shirt for our baby, we wanted to find a stuffed animal. While they had several options, we wanted a Hedwig stuffed animal, but the only options they had for this were a puppet and a $60 moving one. Be prepared for this if you're traveling with a baby.
Our Final Verdict
Seeing the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in 1.5 days is a sprint, but it's 100% doable. The key is to use Early Park Admission for Hagrid's and have a plan.
Our best advice? Just lean into it. Take the pictures. Drink the Butterbeer. Enjoy where you are.
